Get started on Pinterest...
Today I want to share a new favorite and super-addictive website. www.pinterest.com. You’ve probably heard the buzz building around Pinterest the last few months, and it’s no surprise why. This social photo-sharing website has already become one of the top 10 social networks for 2012, and it’s even being touted as the fastest growing social media site in history.
Pinterest is all about sharing visual images and ideas. It is a place to organize all the things that you find inspiring and intriguing. The images that you share are called “Pins,” which you can then place onto “Boards” that are themed and/or categorized as you wish. You can create a board for practically anything, including (but not limited to): exotic locations, gorgeous photography, DIY ideas, and more! You can even think of it as your personal wishlist, filled with things to try out for yourself. So far I have 16 boards with a total of 234 pins in them. When you pin an image onto one of your boards, it saves the link back to the original site. So you can always click back and read up on the original context or give credit for where you found the image. And if you find something you love on someone else’s board, you can click through to find the original source website which can open up whole new worlds you didn’t even know existed. Can you see how fun and addicting this could be!?
Pinterest is also a great tool to FIND things you are looking for. It functions as a visual search engine of sorts. It’s a great replacement for google’s image search engine because when you type “handy” or “hair styles” or “wedding cakes” into Pinterest’s search field, you will get a slew of images that other people have found beautiful and pin-worthy. So it often produces higher quality images than the same search would on Google. If you find something you love that way, you can simply re-pin it to one of your boards to add it to your collection. Be sure to check out the Popular button at the top of the main Pinterest page to see what pins are trending at the moment. It’s a great way to find new content and to find Pinners who share your interests! Sure, Pinterest is a great way to spend hours online dreaming up things you can only dream of … but it’s also starting to become an important aspect of my online marketing strategy. Since my work as a photographer is so visual, I love that Pinterest gives people another way to see how I visually connect to the world. I think it’s so important to make sure that viewers are able to connect with my personality, and thanks to Pinterest you can now see what I’d love to have in my dream home, places i want to travel, my inspirations, and so much more! Happy pinning and you can follow me here: https://pinterest.com/steflin31/ for more ideas!
